KATE MONROE Australia's First Lady of House
Kate Monroe has been at the leading edge of dance culture for over a decade. One of the most in demand DJs in Australia Kate draws a crowd no matter where she is playing. Having repeatedly been voted one of the top 20 DJs in Australia by and Inthemix on line and Juice Magazine, her face and her trademark sound are well known.
Her credits read like a guide to the most legendary parties in the Southern Hemisphere. Whether it be starting 2004 in style for Mobile Home, taking over the decks under the Harbour Bridge as the midnight fireworks lit up the sky, her regular appearances at Harbour Party in the Domain (Sydney), Field Day, Winterdaze, The Prince (Melbourne), Family (Brisbane) and Red Raw (Melbourne) or her residencies at Sublime and Queer Nation at Home Nightclub. With fellow residents Pee Wee Ferris, Kid Kenobi and Nik Fish, Kate's sets on the Terrace at Home have seen Sublime voted "THE BEST CLUB NIGHT" in Australia by the public an unprecedented three years in a row at the National Dance Music Awards.
Kate is as comfortable inside the dark of a nightclub as the open-air outdoor parties. She has played at the new years day Field Day Parties and supported most international DJ Legends when they tour, including Derrick Carter, Bob Sinclar, Tracy Young, Masters at Work, Jose Padilla, Victor Calderone, Eric Morillo, Alan Thompson and Jason Herd.
Besides her consistent and always entertaining sets another aspect which sets Kate apart from other DJ's is the corporate sponsorship and involvement that she attracts. Kate has worked closely with the team from L'Oreal to create the perfect atmosphere at the launches of some of L'oreal's premier brands, as well as being the official endorsee of the SHURE Whitelabel cartridge in Australia.
Kate is as much a natural in front of a microphone and camera as she is behind the decks. She has also been a guest presenter on Triple J, Channel V, The Joint, Alchemy on SBS, and hosted the internet broadcast of Mardi Gras for three years. Kate was also the spokesperson for 'The Live Sites" during the Sydney 2000 Olympics and one of the headline DJs at the closing party for the Olympics at The Domain in front of a staggering 60,000 people.
Known as Australia's First Lady Of House, Kate's distinctive style has led to an extensive touring schedule over the past five years around Australia, New Zealand and ASIA that has seen her add dance floors full of fans with every club she plays at.
Her distinctively sultry and sexy sound has enthralled and excited the punters so much that not only has she released numerous mix albums, but earlier this year Kate Monroe decided to launch her own recording label devoted to underground house, MAT Recordings.
Kate is currently working on a range of recording projects including the second installment in the MAT CD series MAT White due for release 16th September. MAT White will bring your attention to tracks that would never get picked up for mainstream compilations with a few well known numbers thrown in but for the most part Kate has brought together a stack of exceptionally good quality underground house, including her first original track with Engineering partner Glenn Humphries for MAT Recordings.
