Jon is the son of a preacher from a small town in Ohio. Jon, realized he was gay very early on and with his very religious background and upbringing had a hard time coming to terms with his sexuality.
Being gay in a small town wasn't easy for Jon and he moved to Cleveland where he came out. Like so many young men, this six-foot-five, strong and healthy youth thought he was invincible. Yet, at the age of twenty, while living in Cleveland, Jon was infected by his boyfriend of two years and became HIV positive. He is the new face of today's HIV/AIDS crisis.
Jon speaks openly about his former foray into drugs and his brief encounter with crystal meth. So insidious was the drug that Jon had to relocate from Cleveland to San Francisco in order to make a clean break. Now twenty-four, Jon waits tables at the Hard Rock Café. He is still unsure if he is ready to share his HIV status with his highly religious family, but he hopes the ride will help him arrive at a decision. This is Jon's first time on The Ride.
With no medical insurance, Jon is entirely dependent on the SF Aids Foundation for his healthcare. Today he is in good health, but he knows that he will someday face a daily regimen of drugs, yet he remains undaunted. He talks openly about his use of crystal meth, what it is like to be HIV positive and dating, how he became infected and of his hope of keeping others from falling to a disease that he will battle the rest of his life.
