Chuck Norris Aligned With Anti-Gay Group, Calls Marriage "Sacred Union Between Man And Woman"

Right-wing action star Chuck Norris has become a celebrity spokesman for the anti-LGBT National Organization for Marriage. The group posted a photo of the Walker, Texas Ranger star on its Facebook page this week, with a quote insisting that same-sex marriage betrays the institution's purpose as a "sacred union between man and a woman"

"The great majority of [traditional marriage] advocates ... are American citizens who are following 5,000 years of human history and the belief of every major people and religion: Marriage is a sacred union between a man and a woman," the promo reads. "Their pro-[marriage] votes weren't intended to deprive any group of its rights; they were safeguarding their honest convictions regarding the boundaries of marriage."

Yes, just protecting honest convictions—that other Americans are less than them.

The comment stems from a guest column Norris wrote for NOM back in 2008, when Prop 8 was passed in California. But it's not the first—or last—time the action star threw a grenade at the LGBT community: Norris, 74,  also vocally opposed students honoring LGBT rights with a Day of Silence.
