Trixie Mattel and Orville Peck Keep It Cash in New "Jackson" Music Video

It's the country-music collab we've been waiting for.

Move over, Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon — there are some new Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash cosplayers in town.

Trixie Mattel and Orville Peck join Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, and Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty, as the next iconic country-music duo with their new cover of "Jackson," the song made famous in 1967 by the Cash couple. The real-life friends briefly worked together last year when Peck whistled on Trixie's cover of "Video Games" by Lana Del Rey. Now, they're really feeding the children with a long-awaited full-on duet.

“'Jackson!' A stunning callback to the golden era of country music!” Trixie Mattel said in a statement. “A time of wigs and rhinestones (thank God) and iconic duets. Orville and I are thrilled to put our spin and flourish on this anthem of American music. Yes, I wore red and not pink, so brave.”

Their "Jackson" cover can be found on Trixie's new EP, Full Coverage Vol.1, featuring her take on classics like "Blister in the Sun" and Cher's "Believe."

Trixie and Peck also star in a new music video for the track, which shows the pair perform the song live for an empty auditorium. The video was shot in the United Artists Theatre at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, the same venue where they filmed the RuPaul's Drag Race Season 13 finale. “There’s never been a greater country duo than Johnny Cash and June Carter. I think 'Jackson' has remained iconic through the years because it perfectly captures the humor, storytelling, and relationship between performers that every good country song should,” Peck added.

This isn't the first time the masked singer has teamed up with a country-music legend. In 2020, he collaborated with Shania Twain on “Legends Never Die,” a track off of his most recent EP, Show Pony.
