Andrew Rannells’ New Memoir Has “Too Many Dicks” for His Mom

"Just skim ahead."

Andrew Rannells had to prepare his mother for the racy revelations in his new memoir, Too Much Is Not Enough. In fact, he put a warning in the acknowledgments at the end of the book.

"Well, it was pointed out to me that I probably should’ve done that in the opening," Rannells said this week on Late Night With Seth Meyers, "so she still has to read all the sex."

"I just said if she had any questions about what anything was, or what terms were, she should ask my younger sister Natalie," the gay Girls alum continued.

"I just told her, 'Look, if you get to a chapter and there’s, like, too many dicks in it, just skim ahead. You don’t need to read all of it.'"

Rannells also addressed his memoir's mom-unfriendly content last week on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. "I talk about having a lot of sex and stuff, so I don’t think they probably want to hear about that," he explained of his family's reaction. "Now they know!"

In an excerpt recently posted on Vulture, Rannells also shares that a Catholic priest forcibly kissed him when he was a teenager.

“This is by far the most personal project I have ever worked on,” said Rannells in a 2017 statement. “Being an author has always been a dream of mine and I am incredibly honored to be given this opportunity. I am excited to share these stories and I will try my absolute best not to embarrass my family. Too badly.”

Crown Archetype senior editor Matt Inman called Rannells “a true quadruple threat, possessing a writing talent that matches his well-established skill as an actor, singer, and performer. His story will resonate with anyone who has chased a dream against all odds, and at times, all reason."

A Tony nominee for his work in The Book of Mormon and Falsettos, Rannells also starred on Broadway in Hairspray, Hamilton, Jersey Boys, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and The Boys in the Band.

The 40-year-old actor voices a character in Netflix’s Big Mouth and currently stars in Showtime’s Black Monday.
