Pulse Night of Remembrance: 6 Events You Can Attend Around the Country

June 12, 2018 marks two years since the deadly shooting at Orlando's Pulse nightclub, which claimed the lives of 49 people.

Today, June 12, is the Pulse Night of Remembrance, an annual event memorializing the 49 lives claimed in the 2016 massacre at Orlando's Pulse gay nightclub. In the two years following the deadly shooting, countless art installations, community gatherings, and memorial tributes have popped up around the country, paying homage to the lives lost that night and celebrating the resilience of the LGBTQ community.

Below, learn more about six events you can attend today to further that legacy.

Acts of Love and Kindness, Orlando, FL, and more

Event is ongoing; bells toll nationwide at noon (local time)

Organized by the One Orlando Alliance, a coalition of more than 30 LGBTQ organizations in Orlando, Acts of Love and Kindness is a digital activism movement. The campaign encourages members of the Orlando community and beyond to share their stories of giving back and spreading kindness with the hashtag #ActLoveGive. As part of the event, bells around the country will toll 49 times in unison to pay tribute to the 49 victims. More information here.

National Die-In Day, Washington, D.C., and more

Rally begins at 10:30am; die-in begins at noon

Activists in the nation's capital are staging a die-in to memorialize the hundreds of lives lost to gun violence since the Pulse massacre—and to call for sensible gun reform. Though the main event is planned for D.C.'s National Mall, other die-ins are scheduled in cities nationwide, including New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Jacksonville, FL, and more. Pulse's "Twisted Tuesday" Show, New York, NY

Show begins at 6:45pm

Inspired by the Pulse nightclub's popular "Twisted Tuesday" variety show, Gays Against Guns has organized a similar event to commemorate victims and fundraise for Orlando's LGBTQ community. Drag performer Marti Gould Cummings will host the show at Henrietta Hudson, a popular gay hotspot in the West Village. More information here.

Memorial and Rally for Pulse, San Francisco, CA

Event begins at 6:30pm

LGBTQ advocates in San Francisco have organized a community gathering to honor victims of the Pulse massacre, and to call upon politicians to end the gun violence epidemic. Similar events at the heart of San Francisco's Castro district were held during the immediate aftermath of the Pulse massacre on June 12, 2016, and again in 2017. More information here.

Annual Remembrance Ceremony, Orlando, FL

Ceremony begins at 7pm

The Orlando community's annual memorial ceremony honors victims, survivors, and first responders in a public gathering at the ONEPulse Foundation's Pulse Memorial. Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs will be in attendance. More information here.

Pulse Candlelit Vigil, Washington, D.C.

Vigil begins at 8pm

Hosted by D.C.'s Pride Fund to End Gun Violence, this candlelit vigil kicks off at the fountain at Dupont Circle. Locals are invited to come together to honor the victims of the Pulse massacre and demand action from elected officials. More information here.
