Lil Nas X Mounts Satan, Sets Gay Twitter Ablaze With "Montero" Video
Lil Nas X has finally dropped "Montero (Call Me by Your Name)," and Gay Twitter™️ is not okay.
The chart-topping out rapper of "Old Town Road" fame teased the new single for weeks leading it up to its release today (Friday, March 26), and for good reason: "Montero" is absolutely 🔥. We mean that quite literally, too. The song's breathtaking animated visuals see a scantily clad Lil Nas X pole dance his way into hell, where he bottoms for Satan and takes the devil's place on his throne.
No, we're not making that up. Yes, queer Twitter was positively ablaze with reactions:
Its hedonistic visuals aside, "Montero" is an incredibly meaningful song to Lil Nas X, who wrote a heartfelt Instagram post addressed to his 14-year-old self about its origin. The single bears his name, a reality that would have once filled him with fear.
"I know we promised to never be 'that' type of gay person, I know we promised to die with the secret, but this will open doors for many other queer people to simply exist," the 21-year-old artist wrote. "You see this is very scary for me, people will be angry, they will say I'm pushing an agenda. But the truth is, I am. The agenda to make people stay the fuck out of other people's lives and stop dictating who they should be."
The range this man has!
