Another day, another win for the gays.
Actress and comedian Carol "Niecy" Nash gave Gay Twitter™️ the gift of a lifetime when she announced out of the blue that she'd married musician Jessica Betts.
"Mrs. Carol Denise Betts," she tweeted this Monday, August 31, complete with a beautiful picture of her and Betts walking down the aisle in show-stopping white attire. She also shared the news of her nuptials on her Instagram story, adding the hashtag "#PlotTwist."
Prior to Monday, Nash wasn’t out publicly as a member of the queer community, nor did fans know of her relationship with Betts. The singer did appear on at least one episode of TNT's Claws alongside Nash, in which her character sang at Nash's fictional wedding. The chemistry, y'all!
It probably goes without saying that the surprise announcement made gays everywhere rejoice.
Nash had a large gay following even before coming out. The 50-year-old actress is best known for her roles on popular television shows like Claws, Scream Queens, and Reno 911!. She won an Emmy Award for her work on the Style Network's Clean House, which she hosted from 2003–2010.
She also hosted the NewNowNext Awards in 2010, a gig she described as "the most over-the-top situation I’d ever been in."
"I’d never seen so much glam in one room, so I’m glad I brought garments, honey," Nash recalled to NewNowNext in 2017. "A couple years before that, I was asked to host the WeHo Awards in West Hollywood, so that’s when I figured out I had a big gay following. I was like, 'Okay, come on, then!'"
Nash has two ex-husbands: Don Nash and Jay Tucker, the latter of whom she divorced earlier this year. Her queerness marks a major moment for Black queer women, who still struggle to see themselves represented in mainstream media.
Congratulations to the happy couple, and thanks for the serotonin boost!
