Miley Cyrus, Laura Jane Grace, And Joan Jett Cover The Replacements' "Androgynous"
Miley Cyrus is launching her new pro-LGBT charity, The Happy Hippie Foundation, with the help of some punk rock legends: The pop star joined Joan Jett and Against Me! singer Laura Jane Grace for a rendition of The Replacements' 1984 song "Androgynous."
It's a fitting cover, given the organization's goal to "rally young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBT youth and other vulnerable populations."
Grace came out as transgender in 2012. In a 2017 interview, she revealed that her gender dysphoria pushed her into destructive behaviors like cutting and substance abuse. "I didn’t know—I had no resources. I had no one to turn to to talk about it."
Jett has been a lesbian icon since her days with the Runaways, but has declined to address her own sexual orientation. "I never made any kind of statement about my personal life on any level," she said in 2006. "I never made any proclamations. So I don't know where people are getting that from."
Jett did produce the 2010 film The Runaways, which depicted her intimate relationship with bandmate Cherie Currie.
