Latin Superstar Bad Bunny RuVeals Drag Personas in New Video
Whether sunbathing nude or twerking in a dress, Bad Bunny always looks damn good.
The Latin trap and reggaeton singer pulls off not one but three drag lewks in his new video, "Yo Perreo Sola." What is this, the RuPaul's Drag Race Season 12 premiere?
One of his sexy alter egos is feeling her Kinky Boots fantasy, and another really enjoys touching her large breasts. The third, a blonde, grinds up against... Bad Bunny? Well, if you can't love yourself...
"Yo Perreo Sola," which features vocals by Nesi, is the latest single from Bad Bunny's sophomore album, YHLQMDLG. The title translates to "I Twerk Alone," referring to a woman's right to dance by herself, free from any harassment, at da club.
"I wrote it from the perspective of a woman," Bad Bunny, a.k.a. Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, told Rolling Stone. "I wanted a woman’s voice to sing it—‘yo perreo sola’—because it doesn’t mean the same thing when a man sings it. But I do feel like that woman sometimes."
Directed by Bad Bunny and Stillz, the empowering video ends with a message that reads, "If she doesn’t want to dance with you, respect her, she twerks alone."
Like rapper Lil Yachty, who recently faced homophobic criticism on social media after doing drag in his new video, Bad Bunny also appears to be responding to some negative feedback.
"I have answers to all your questions, and defense for all your accusations, but...," the singer tweeted Friday. "Who the hell are you? Not that you were my mom to give you explanations."
Last month Bad Bunny performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon wearing a shirt that honored Alexa Negrón Luciano, a homeless transgender woman who was brutally murdered in his native Puerto Rico.
A recent new Los Angeles Times profile noted that the 25-year-old performer, who appeared in the Super Bowl halftime show with Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, has included trans women and same-sex couples in his videos. He also called out fellow reggaeton star Don Omar on social media for making homophobic comments.
"It does not define me,” Bad Bunny said of his own sexuality. "At the end of the day, I don’t know if in 20 years I will like a man. One never knows in life. But at the moment I am heterosexual and I like women."
