Meet the Logo30: Ariana DeBose

The queer performer has wowed Broadway audiences in "Summer: The Donna Summer Musical" and "Hamilton."

Every day during the month of June, we will be spotlighting our 2018 Logo30. The powerful series profiles ordinary and extraordinary people who show pride in unique and provocative ways. Visit the Logo30 homepage to learn more about the series.

Ariana DeBose is a queer disco queen: The actress, singer, and dancer is best known for her role as Disco Donna in Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, a gig that landed her a Tony Award nomination. She's also an original cast member of Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda's smash-hit Broadway musical about the Revolutionary War hero of the same name.

Who does DeBose look up to, both onstage and offstage? She cites iconic actress Judith Light as a major inspiration.

"I have such a beautiful love affair with Light," DeBose tells NewNowNext. "I admire her career and her activism. She is woke, she is aware, she loves her community... I'm always drawn to really strong women who are totally unafraid to say what needs to be said and to push for social change."
