Trans Runner Amelia Gapin Named Finalist For "Women's Running" Magazine Cover
Aydian Dowling didn't get picked to be on the cover of Men's Health's Ultimate Guy issue, but another trans athlete is in the running to be a cover model.
Amelia Gapin is a finalist for Women's Running magazine's cover contest—she is one of eight finalists chosen out of some 3,000 submissions. The winner will be chosen by online vote, so go support her now!
"This is a super surreal thing to me," says Gapin. "When I entered, I didn't think there was any chance I'd be chosen as a finalist. Just a quick look at the bios of the other seven finalists makes it clear some really amazing women with incredible stories entered. When I read their bios, my immediate reaction was that I don't belong among them."
Gapin admits she is a little conflicted, though.
"I've always hated the idea of being treated like I'm special," she says. "I don't want to be on the cover of a magazine simply because I was born with the wrong junk and being trans is all the rage in the media these days. I have no desire to play into the voyeurism of trans lives by cis (not trans) people."
Given she also founded MyTransHealth.com, which connects users with trans-friendly and informed healthcare professionals, we'd say she's more than worthy on her merits.
