Yellowjackets and Scream have helped make Jasmin Savoy Brown into a new kind of scream queen: a queer one. But her talent exceeds acting. Earlier this year she dropped her first single, “Orange Wine,” and created the podcast The Homo Schedule, which she co-hosts, to bring queer happiness.
“To me, Pride is joy, and that sounds so simple, but I do think it is that simple,” she says. “Queer people have had to overcome so much that our laughter, our joy is a celebration.”
Brown’s proudest accomplishment is being able to both make music and produce the video for her first single. “It is so gay,” she says. "There's just so many undertones in the music video, like our lighting is purple, blue, and pink to celebrate our bisexual friends. And it's my music. It's a piece of me unscripted.”
The Homo Schedule, co-hosted with her Yellowjackets girlfriend and nonbinary actor Liv Hewson, checks in with incredibly creative queer folks and explores the wonderful, funny, and sometimes ridiculous parts of the LGBTQ+ experience. “There's so much trauma porn for our community,” Brown says, “and I wanted a space to just be inquisitive and joyful and laugh and get to know queer people that I admire.”
