J.K. Rowling's transphobia truly knows no bounds.

The bestselling British author of Harry Potter fame has made headlines yet again for anti-transgender animus. This time, it's for her new book, Troubled Blood, which reportedly follows a "transvestite serial killer" whose MO is to dress up as a woman to slaughter his victims. The trite storyline panders perfectly to the irrational but dangerous rhetoric employed by transphobic "bathroom bill" proponents, leaving many fearful of the novel's implications for trans women.

News of Troubled Blood's murderous protagonist spread this Monday, September 14, after The Telegraph U.K. published the first review of Rowling's new novel. The book is the fifth installment in Rowling's Cormoran Strike series, which she writes under the pen name Robert Galbraith. It's due out this Tuesday, September 15, from Little, Brown Book Group in the U.K.

Reviewer Jake Kerridge described the 900-page tome as "a book whose moral seems to be: never trust a man in a dress," according to Pink News U.K.

"One wonders what critics of Rowling’s stance on trans issues will make of [the] book," Kerridge added.

The pushback is so widespread that #RIPJKRowling is currently trending on Twitter even though the author is still very much alive.

Sadly, it's not the first time Rowling has expressed anti-trans sentiment, nor is it the first time her words have had dangerous repercussions for the trans community. After completely unprompted transphobic tweets she posted this June went viral, right-wing publications wasted no time weaponizing her words to promote debunked myths about trans women endangering cis women and girls in public spaces. Meanwhile, trans women already face disproportionately high rates of discrimination and hate-motivated violence.

Rowling's original tweets from June—and her lengthy blog post doubling down on the opinion—even prompted Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Eddie Redmayne to issue statements in support of the trans community.

At the time of writing, Rowling has yet to address her most recent transphobic controversy on social media.
