Music Monday: 5 Songs You Need to Hear Today

New pre-summer bops for your long weekend good times

NewNowNext spotlights new music by upcoming and established artists we think you should know about. Tell us what you think in the comment section.

Jess LaCoy – “One Shot”

Going out in my single days was the best—never knowing who you might meet or what might happen. “One Shot” is a beautifully arranged ethereal summer love song that teases you with those same possibilities. Produced by Invisible Heroes and shot by Big Iguana Productions, this is a summer party dream dalliance come true. Another vodka soda please!

Jake Frost – “Undercover”

It wouldn’t be Memorial Day without an international army vet turned dark pop artist on the list. In “Undercover,” Jake narrates the push and pull that queer people go through to hide their desires and gain culture acceptance. The song is a hauntingly progressive pop ballad with the emotionally moving choreography of unrequited love.

Ben Hazlewood – “Grave Relief”

Ben is an Australian pop artist who just released a deeply personal song in support of Mental Health Awareness Month. “Grave Relief” is an honest account of everything that transpired with himself and his family following the events of his oldest brother's suicide. Both the artwork and the video feature his entire family and the video was filmed in his childhood home.

Rouge Mary – “Boogie Down”

The iconic voice of Hercules & Love Affair has gone solo with this fiery version of "Boogie Down" from the great Al Jarreau. "I can be anything I want to, all I need is to get my Boogie Down" are the lyrics of fluidity that resonated for Rouge Mary with this unclassifiable cover track, bridging funk, pop, jazz and soul.

Todrick Hall – “Nail, Hair, Hips, Heels”

Paramedics please. I was not ready. I guarantee this will be playing everywhere for Pride next month, an instant turn up for any celebration. This track off of Haus Party, Pt. 1 is the first in a series of EPs Todrick created specifically for the LGBTQ+ community. I love a good instructional dance song that also doubles as my new morning workout routine.
