From Nikkie de Jager's Marsha P. Johnson reference to Megan Rapinoe's very gay clutch, these looks worn by out celebs made the night.

After multiple postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Met Gala finally returned on Monday (September 13), summoning the hottest celebrities and public figures du jour for fashion's biggest night out. The theme of the evening was "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion" in celebration of the Met Costume Institute's forthcoming exhibit of the same name.

Plenty of LGBTQ+ artists and activists were in attendance, and they did not pass up a prime opportunity to stunt. Find 10 of our fave queer looks from the event below, listed in no particular order.

This embellished tulle gown is beautiful in its own right, but de Jager took things one step further by including the phrase "Pay it no mind," a quote from Stonewall-era transgender activist Marsha P. Johnson, on the train.

The Schitt's Creek star and co-creator took this year's place-based theme quite literally, sporting a pastel-hued set with map motifs galore — and the silhouettes of two men kissing.
