Birds of Prey

Margot Robbie reprises her role as the Joker’s erstwhile girlfriend, cray-cray psychiatrist-turned-criminal Harley Quinn, in this female-led follow-up to 2016’s Suicide Squad. Rosie Perez plays the DCEU’s first openly gay character, Gotham police officer Renee Montoya (Ali Wong portrays her girlfriend), while villains Roman Sionis, a.k.a. Black Mask (Ewan McGregor), and scarred serial killer Victor Zsasz (Chris Messina) are great fun to watch—even if they aren’t as queer as reports and the actors themselves teased pre-release. Ship away, fanfic queens! (Available now on VOD, Warner Bros.)

The Gentlemen

Director Guy Ritchie returns to the slick action-crime comedy genre that put him on the map (see 2000’s Snatch) with this all-star tale of a marijuana mogul, Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey), looking to sell off his empire and retire. Hugh Grant, who was amazing as a closeted, corrupt politician in Amazon’s must-binge limited series A Very English Scandal, plays another shady gay, Fletcher, a skeevy private investigator chasing a scoop about Mickey for a tabloid. Also here for the party: Colin Farrell, Charlie Hunnam, and Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery. (Available now on VOD, Toff Guy)

Nevrland

Suffering from anxiety (um, big same) and working in a slaughterhouse, 17-year-old Austrian Jakob (Simon Frühwirth) goes off the rails after meeting an older guy, Kristjan (Paul Forman), on a webcam site. First-time feature director Gregor Schmidinger has crafted the tense, trippy, sexy, beautifully shot coming-of-age tale we need right now. Love, Simon this ain’t! Crip Camp

Need a dose of real-life uplift and triumph over adversity? Executive produced by gay Oscar nominee Howard Gertler (How to Survive a Plague) and Barack and Michelle Obama (!), this documentary revisits Camp Jened, a 1970s Catskills-set summer camp for disabled teenagers that was as fun, freewheeling, and debauched (pot smoking! make-out sessions!) as any other. (Streaming now on Netflix)

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness

In case you're looking for a trainwreck that’s even messier than the one we’re living through, Netflix’s seven-episode Tiger King docuseries is the cat’s hunty! It's the story of openly gay, outrageous Joe Exotic, the gun-toting owner of an Oklahoma animal park consisting mostly of tigers, who wages a vendetta against rival park owner Carole Baskin. Expect more and more layers of jaw-dropping insanity and batshit-crazy twists (Joe’s teenage husbands! mysterious disappearances! deaths!) with every episode. A dramatization is already in the works at Universal, with Kate McKinnon set to play Baskin, so get sucked into this binge ASAP. (Streaming now on Netflix)

Zoom From My Room

Actor and writer JD Scalzo, of the gay webseries Jaded and 2018 queer thriller Devil’s Path, has turned the lemon that is coronavirus self-isolation into entertainment lemonade, hosting daily webisodes in which he and friends kiki and share quarantine-time tea via Zoom. You are not alone, henny! (Streaming now on Vimeo)

Council of Dads

When five children—including trans-identified 7-year-old JJ (Blue Chapman)—lose their father (Tom Everett Scott) to cancer, his bestie Anthony (Clive Standen), gay physician Oliver (J. August Richards), and AA sponsee Larry (Michael O’Neill) step in as surrogate dads. Adapted from Bruce Feiler’s 2010 memoir (in real life, Feiler survived cancer), this one is tailor-made for This Is Us stans, serving up a weekly dose of all the feels. (Tuesdays on NBC)

One Day at a Time

Despite its fresh helping of queer diversity, Netflix’s beloved reboot of Norman Lear’s 1970s sitcom was dropped after three seasons last year (boooo!). The good news? Pop TV came to the rescue to serve up a fourth (yayyy!) season of the Alvarez clan’s hijinks and dramz. In the premiere (which starts with a Netflix burn), Ray Romano cameos as a census taker while lesbian teen Elena (Isabella Gomez) and her nonbinary bae Syd (Sheridan Pierce) announce they’ve decided to preemptively break up before heading to college. Place your bets on where they stand by the finale! (Tuesdays on Pop TV)

Amazon reunites Project Runway OGs Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum for a new fashion competition series with a whole lot of extra: a massive budget, contestants from all over the globe (we’re already obsessed with a sassy Belgian named Sander), Paris and Tokyo studios, a prize of one million dollahs, and a collection for sale exclusively on Amazon worldwide. And did we mention the judges will include Naomi Campbell, Nicole Richie, and sexy out designer Joseph Altuzarra? We’re in! (Streaming March 27 on Amazon Prime)

Trixie Mattel: Moving Parts

The Drag Race All Stars Season 3 winner, a.k.a. Brian Firkus, takes us behind those signature extra eyelashes in director Nicholas Zeig-Owens’ candid documentary, which touches on his highs and a couple of lows (e.g., when Katya suffered a psychotic break in early 2018 and had to bail on their Viceland series, The Trixie & Katya Show). Our advice: Make a double-feature night of it with Mattel’s uproarious Skinny Legend tour special. (Streaming March 27 on Netflix)
