The world needs more trans joy, and Dominique Jackson is happy to share hers.
In a new PSA, the Pose star and prominent transgender activist teamed up with HRC and WarnerMedia to highlight the importance of telling diverse trans stories. The PSA premiered this Thursday, September 24, and will air on WarnerMedia networks throughout the fall. The 30-second spot sees Jackson and five other trans people of color share hobbies or interests that enrich their lives, or happy things they can't live without.
What can't Jackson live without? "Love. More importantly, respect."
Sadly, depictions of transgender people enjoying safe, happy lives are few and far between in mainstream television, films, and news media. Although hate-motivated violence poses a disproportionately high threat to trans people, particularly Black trans women, portrayals of this community shouldn't be confined to memorials.
Alongside the video, HRC also unveiled "See Each Other. Save Trans Lives," a new educational campaign on its website.
"Through this collaboration with the HRC Foundation and WarnerMedia, we are amplifying everyday stories of resilience, joy and humanity—working to break the connection between anti-trans stigma and violence against the transgender and non-binary community," the campaign description reads.
