Sara Ramirez Joins HBO Max's "Sex and the City" Revival Series
And we couldn't help but wonder... what if Carrie Bradshaw got into podcasting?
It sounds like that question is being answered in HBO Max's upcoming Sex and the City revival, And Just Like That... Carrie doesn't host a podcast herself — she's not the most tech-savvy if you remember — but in the new series, she is a frequent guest on a podcast hosted by Che Diaz, played by Sara Ramirez.
Ramirez is most well-known for playing Dr. Callie Torres, the beloved bisexual surgeon on Grey's Anatomy. They were also featured on the fourth and fifth seasons of Madam Secretary.
On And Just Like That... Ramirez will play Che, a "nonbinary, queer, stand-up comedian that hosts a podcast on which Carrie Bradshaw is regularly featured. Che is a big presence with a big heart whose outrageous sense of humor and progressive, human overview of gender roles has made them and their podcast very popular."
“Everyone at And Just Like That… is beyond thrilled that a dynamically talented actor such as Sara Ramírez has joined the Sex and the City family. Sara is a one-of-a-kind talent, equally at home with comedy and drama — and we feel excited and inspired to create this new character for the show,” said exec producer Michael Patrick King in a statement.
In 2016, Ramirez announced they were bisexual, and last year they came out as nonbinary: "In me is the capacity to be everything from a girlish boy to a boyish girl," they posted on Instagram, with the nonbinary hashtag.
Earlier this year it was confirmed that a new Sex and the City series was in the works with original cast members Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis returning, along with executive producer Michael Patrick King.
According to a release from HBO Max, the series will “follow Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s. The ten-episode, half-hour series is scheduled to begin production in New York late spring.”
