At the opening ceremony for the 2018 season at Dollywood, the queen of country, Dolly Parton, took the stage and talked to the crowd about her upcoming projects—including the movie, Dumplin', which features RuPaul's Drag Race resident glamour toad, Ginger Minj.
Last summer it was announced that Ginger was cast in Dumplin', a movie produced by and starring Jennifer Aniston, based on the 2015 YA novel of the same name.
The film follows Willowdean, a plus-sized teen who is full of confidence and spirit, and enters a local beauty pageant to win over the boy she likes and to enrage her mother (Aniston), who is a pageant queen, herself. When Willowdean enters the contest she inspires a group of teenage outcasts to find their inner strength and join the pageant too.
Dove Cameron and Maddie Baillio from NBC’s Hairspray Live will also be starring in the film, along with Georgie Flores and Danielle Macdonald.
In the book Willowdean says "the best moments of her life have started with a Dolly Parton song" and it's no coincidence that the main character was named after one of Parton's sisters, Willadeene Parton.
"It's a sweet little movie," Parton told the audience at the Dollywood event. The film will be using some of Parton's classic tracks while also featuring some new music the singer is writing just for the movie.
Here's hoping we get to see Ginger Minj sing a Parton-penned number or two in the movie.
Dumplin' isn't the only movie Parton has coming up. She also revealed that a sequel to 9 to 5 is finally happening with her, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda all set to reprise their roles from the original classic.
RuPaul's Drag Race Season 10 airs Thursdays at 8/7c on VH1.
