Are you ready to cast your vote for Payton Hobart 2020?
If you've already blazed through the first season of Ryan Murphy's new Netflix series The Politician, then you witnessed a chaotic finale that sets up next season's New York City-centric storyline.
Judith Light (L) as Dede Standish and Bette Midler (R) as Hadassah Gold.
The episode, titled "Vienna," fast-forwards three years from the previous installment to show our protagonist Payton (Ben Platt) struggling with alcoholism as a college student in the Big Apple. He cleans up his act when his former political team from his Santa Barbara high school reunites, drafting him to take on local state senator Dede Standish (Judith Light) and her longtime chief of staff, Hadassah Gold (Bette Midler).
“We knew Season 2 would come out in the summer of 2020,” Murphy told The Los Angeles Times. “And one of the things we were wanting to write about is this idea of age and experience and the status quo versus youth and the energy of a more progressive, younger candidate. You can see that with somebody like AOC [Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez]. You can see the passing of the torch and the generational clash. We wanted to write to that.”

Light and Midler are both returning for the second season, and on a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live!, the Transparent actress revealed that the new season would start filming mid-October on location in NYC.
Sadly for fans of Dusty Jackson (Jessica Lange), the iconic actress has confirmed that her character was always intended to only appear in The Politician's first season. But we're still holding our breath that Gwyneth Paltrow will be back as Payton's loving mother.

While The Politician Season 2 won't bow until next year, we can almost certainly count on more political backstabbing, same-sex kisses, and musical performances at Marie's Crisis in the next batch of bonkers episodes.
But will Payton's creepy wooden mannequin return? All questions will be answered next summer.
