IN OTHER NEWS
Catching up with Will on Nashville, he worked my last nerve this week. Actually, every character worked my last nerve. This show needs a Moldavian Massacre STAT. It started out with great news for Will, as he heard his song on the radio for the first time ... while he was in the shower. So at least we got this.
It went downhill from there, though, when some shrill blonde harpy on TV started screaming about "family values" and demanded that the radio stations pull Will off the air for promoting "that lifestyle."
Will's label head Luke wants Will to go on the air to confront the woman, but of course Will refuses because reasons. So Luke goes on instead, makes things worse, and at the end of the episode listeners are demanding Will's record be pulled, and Will's car is vandalized. Wait ... did they try to spell "twink" with an "e"?
George Takei blasts Marvel's "cringeworthy" casting of Tilda Swinton in Asian role.
Rolling Stones ask Donald Trump to stop using their music.
“The Rolling Stones have never given permission to the Trump campaign to use their songs and have requested that they cease all use immediately."
Confession time: I stopped watching Empire months ago. But apparently Jamal is now starting a new relationship, and a lot of people are not happy with all the "gay shit."
How Donald Trump is already surrounding himself with fervent homophobes.
"Others on the shortlist, all of whom have been talking with or advising Trump to varying degrees are; Oklahoma governor Mary Fallin, who said gay marriage violates “religious freedom,” successfully fought hard against LGBT rights measures in her state, dropped benefits for all couples in the Oklahoma National Guard rather than give benefits to same-sex couples and whom Trump said would be a “great” VP pick; Chris Christie, who’s opposed gay marriage for years as a bully to equality in New Jersey; and Florida governor Rick Scott, who fought marriage equality, supports allowing religious-based adoption agencies to turn away gay couples (and is opposed to adoption by gays altogether, though didn’t fight a court ruling) and who signed an anti-gay law as recently as this past March."
And here's The Weekly ShoutOUT™. Each week we're going to focus on one out athlete/performer and feature a daily pic and career timeline. We'll be showcasing the big names, but also the lesser-known gay and bisexual celebs who deserve more recognition.
This week our 164th ShoutOUT™ is to ... Wesley Taylor
Wesley had his biggest TV success as Bobby on both season of NBC's Smash. Here he is discussing that role, his early life, and his Broadway career.
Most Briefs lists involve the "best" or "greatest" of something, so for a change let's switch it up, as Evil Snicks brings you The 30 Worst Music Videos Of All Time.
You'll see debacles from major musical artists, as well as a few Youtube "stars." Sure, it's really easy to pick on desperate wannabes. It's fun, too. But it proves that terrible can run the gamut from multi-million dollar productions to, well, a certain video named after a day of the week. You know the one.
At #2 is "Losing You" by Jan Terri
How could I not include the legendary Jan, who carved out her own niche on public access TV in the early 90's, with "Losing You" the jewel in her crown. It takes a lot of courage to sing your heart out in front of a sump pump, but Jan was nothing if not fearless.
Of course, "Get Down Goblin" is still a part of my annual Halloween celebration.
