New Documentary Poster Features Never-Before-Seen Photo of Whitney Houston

Famed photographer Randee St. Nicholas opened up her archives for "Whitney."

Kanye West may have recently spent $85,000 on a photo of Whitney Houston's drug-strewn bathroom for Pusha T's album cover, but that's not what you should be looking at this Memorial Day weekend.

A new poster for Whitney, an upcoming documentary about Houston, features a never-before-seen image of the diva shot by photographer Randee St. Nicholas, who opened up her archives to Roadside Attractions and Miramax for the film.

“I’ve been quite fortunate throughout my career to have photographed and directed music videos for some of the most talented artists of our time," says St. Nicholas in a statement. "Among them was the extremely charismatic and enchanting beauty Whitney Houston."

"I began photographing Whitney during the filming of The Bodyguard, and photographed her for the very last time for the film Sparkle," she continues. "During all of the years in-between, we shared many creative adventures for various projects she was working on.”

“We knew when Randee agreed to collaborate with us on the poster, that through her incredible images we’d be able to create a poster that truly captured the magic and essence of the Icon Whitney Houston,” adds Dennis O’Connor, Roadside Attractions president of marketing.

Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Kevin Macdonald, Whitney explores the life and career of the troubled performer, who died in 2012 at age 48. It features exclusive interviews with those closest to Houston, including Bobby Brown, Clive Davis, and L.A. Reid.

Unlike previous films about the pop legend, including last summer's Whitney: Can I Be Me?, Whitney was made with the approval and participation of Houston’s family.

The first Whitney trailer, released earlier this month, teases rare and previously unseen archival footage like a clip of Houston throwing shade at Paula Abdul. It also references close friend Robyn Crawford, with whom Houston was rumored to be romantically involved.

Whitney is in theaters July 6.
