Watch JoJo Siwa Quickstep Her Way to "Dancing With the Stars" History
Jojo Siwa is coming for that mirrorball trophy — and making television history while doing it.
The Dance Moms alum made her Dancing on the Stars debut on the Season 30 premiere this Monday (September 20). Siwa, who came out as a member of the LGBTQ community earlier this year, and her professional partner, Jenna Johnson, are the competition series' first same-sex dancing couple.
The duo performed an energetic quickstep to Jet's "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" and were awarded 29 out of 40 points by the judges, the highest score of the night.
"It was so cool! I didn't know when it happened!" Siwa told ET backstage after the premiere. "When Tyra said it was the highest score of the night, I lost it."
On Instagram, both Siwa and Johnson gushed over one another, with Johnson telling her dance partner that there "aren’t enough words to express my absolute admiration for you."
"The moment I met you, I knew that you were going to change my life," she wrote. "You are full of love, laughter, positivity, and GLITTER!!! Thank you for an epic night… (and saving me from falling flat on my face 😵) FIRST EVER SAME SEX COUPLE!!!! And I’m proud to say it. Night one down and (hopefully) many more to go!"
The Nickelodeon star made headlines this February when she came out, later explaining it was her girlfriend who helped her step out of the closet.
“I do have the most amazing, wonderful, perfect, most beautiful girlfriend in the whole world,” she revealed during an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. “It’s not something I’m ashamed of, I just haven’t shown the internet yet.”
