Gay Sex Just Adds To The Puzzles Of "Mr. Robot"

USA's hacker drama Mr. Robot has become one of the summer's most compelling shows. The series follows Elliot (Rami Malek), a computer security consultant who has problems relating to people in person, preferring to figure them out by hacking into their computer files and their social media accounts.

It's got the right mix of familiar tropes, plot twists and a fresh perspective that makes every episode feel like a discovery. And this week, gay sex made it an even more intriguing puzzle.

First, there was a more mundane gay revelation. In the premiere episode, Elliot's boss Gideon (Michel Gill) tells Elliot he's gay, with a husband unhappy that Gideon isn't out to more people.

This week, a dinner party at Gideon's home gave us the chance to meet Gideon husband, Harry (played by Queer as Folk vet Randy Harrison). Perry seems to find his husband's employees strange, which makes him one of the most human characters on this drama.

The last time I saw a TV show inspiring viewers to frantically analyze what they just watched, Breaking Bad fans were trying to figure out what clues could be found in pink teddy bears and Marty Robbins songs.

Viewers want to know how much of what we're seeing is real and how much is in just Elliot's head. Why do signs for E Corp say "Evil Corp"? Viewers carefully go through Elliot's narration to find an explanation. Is the mysterious man (Christian Slater) who recruits Elliot into the hacker group FSociety real or just a figment of Elliot's imagination, like Tyler Durden in Fight Club? Viewers rewatch episodes looking for clues.

This week raises more questions as we spent some time following E Corp VP Tyrell (Martin Walström). Things start with a look at Tyrell's morning routine, which feels like something out of American Psycho.

Tyrell's spending that morning getting into the right mindset to ask for the newly-vacated CTO position. Unfortunately, the man who will pick E Corp's new CTO isn't eager to talk with Tyrell. Luckily, that man has an assistant, Anwar (Mitchell Winter) who has a much more helpful attitude, and Tyrell has a plan for how he can take advantage of it.

That night, thanks to a selfie posted online, Tyrell finds Anwar at a nightclub. He skips most of the small talk and almost immediately tells Anwar he sought him out for sex.

There are some very NSFW screencaps on the next page.

The next we see of Tyrell, he's leaving Anwar very satisfied.

Meanwhile, Tyrell is... making sure he reached his target heart rate. Okay.

Tyrell suggests that Anwar hit the shower to clean up — which turns out to be a way to get Anwar away from his phones so that he can install some spyware.

A busy night for Tyrell, but when he gets home his pregnant wife is waiting for him and demanding a bit of S&M play.

Mr Robot

Now, Mr. Robot viewers have new questions to ponder. Is Tyrell a bisexual schemer? A heteroflexible opportunist? Who got some 50 Shades of American Psycho in my Fight Club: Cyber show? I might have some theories after watching the episode a few more times.
