RuPaul Makes Emmys Herstory With Another Win for Outstanding Host

He's now tied for the most Emmy-awarded Black artist ever.

RuPaul's Drag Race's winning streak continues.

The popular VH1 competition series grabbed even more gold at this past weekend's 2021 Creative Arts Emmys. It snatched up five awards, including one for RuPaul, who took home his sixth straight win for Outstanding Host For a Reality or Competition Program.

He is now tied with Julia Louis-Dreyfuss — who won Outstanding Actress in a Comedy six times in a row for Veep — for consecutive Emmy wins. RuPaul is also tied with cinematographer Donald A. Morgan as the most-awarded Black artist in the history of the Emmys with 10 awards, a tally Ru will surpass if Drag Race wins Outstanding Competition Program at next week's 2021 Primetime Emmy Awards.

“I started in television 40 years ago on a public access station in Atlanta, Georgia... a little show called The American Music Show," Ru said in his acceptance speech. "They were so kind to me to have me do my hard yards there years ago, and I want to thank them for being so kind to me and all the people in this business who’ve been kind. I’ve got to tell you, the sweetness and the kindness is what I appreciate the most today. In fact, the sweetness and the kindness are at the top of my list of human virtues. After that would be a big fat ass. Thank you so much for this award.”

RuPaul's Drag Race also took home Emmys for Outstanding Casting For A Reality Program, Outstanding Directing For A Reality Program, and Outstanding Picture Editing For A Structured Reality Or Competition Program, and Untucked snatched a trophy for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program.

Condragulations! Fingers crossed for more winner, winner, chicken dinner at next week's Primetime Emmys.
