Conservative political pundit and Trump administration White House counselor Kellyanne Conway used a recent appearance on Fox News' The Story With Martha MacCallum to… belt out some T-Swift?

In conversation with MacCallum, Conway spoke about Trump's most recent controversies, including his "promised" trade deal with China, a slew of contradictory tweets, and "You Need to Calm Down" singer Taylor Swift pointing fingers at the current administration at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards.

"[Swift] wants to see the Equality Act pass, and she wants to get the White House on board," MacCallum said, including a clip of Swift's rousing call to action during her acceptance speech for Video of the Year on Monday night. "She's waiting. She's tapping her watch."

To which Conway responded, "She's welcome to her opinion… You know, I actually like the new Taylor Swift song called 'You Need to Calm Down.'"

She then proceeded to sing a verse from the pro-LGBTQ track. (Let's just say her rendition was pitchy.)

"If you say it on the street, that's a knockout / If you say it in a tweet, that's a cop-out…" I love that! That's Washington in a nutshell. I think that when Hollywood and singers all go political, it seems in the moment that it's very popular. And we've seen when it backfires and it blows up. She's also somebody who went up against President Trump head-to-head in the U.S. Senate race in Tennessee and lost.

When pressed to give an actual answer as to why Trump refuses to support the Equality Act, Conway had this to say: "The president and the White House support equality; we don't support pieces of legislation that have poison pills in it that can harm other people."

That's a weird way to describe a policy that could ensure basic nondiscrimination protections for millions of LGBTQ Americans, but sure, go off, Jill.
