Giddyup, Little Monsters!
Orville Peck most recently teamed up with Trixie Mattel for a Johnny and June Carter Cash cover. Now, the out country crooner has dropped another cover: a reimagining of Lady Gaga's "Born This Way (The Country Road Version)" for the upcoming 10th-anniversary re-release of her iconic album. It's the second new track released from Born This Way Reimagined, with Gaga unveiling a remix of "Judas" from NOLA bounce legend Big Freedia last week.
Peck's take on Gaga's already countrified dance track is a dramatic rodeo redo, complete with twangy guitars and belt-your-heart-out vocals from the masked cowboy.
"I am so honoured and excited to be a part of the iconic legacy of this song and album," the singer wrote on Instagram. "Thank you @ladygaga for askin me and Happy Pride y’all!!"
As NewNowNext previously reported, the new Born This Way record will feature the original tracklist along with reimagined versions of six songs — “Marry the Night,” “Judas,” “Highway Unicorn (Road to Love),” “Yoü and I,” “The Edge of Glory,” and “Born This Way (The Country Road Version)” — from “incredible artists who represent and advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community.”
There are still four covers to come, so we bet Mother Monster has some more surprises up her sleeve before Born This Way Reimagined drops on June 16.
