A man was attacked outside a gay bar in New York last week by a group shouting homophobic slurs. The men punched and kicked the unnamed 25-year-old victim, police say, resulting in his leg being broken in two places.
The man says he just departed Vodka Soda in Hell's Kitchen around 3:30am on July 17, when five men followed him down the street shouting homophobic slurs in Spanish.
When they reached Ninth Avenue, the group's attack turned physical. The victim, who was treated at Bellevue Hospital, said he could only remember what two of his attackers looked like.
While Hell's Kitchen is a major gayborhood in New York, last month leaflets were found on windshields in the area threatening to "kill homosexuals."
The notes were found on cars outside Vodka Soda, among other locations.
