NikkieTutorials Is a Bridal Beauty on the Cover of "The Knot"
Here comes the bride!
Beloved Dutch beauty expert and veteran YouTuber Nikkie De Jager—a.k.a. @NikkieTutorials has become the first trans woman cover star for The Knot. Nikkie's 2020 wedding with her fiancé Dylan was postponed by COVID, but now the makeup mogul is a bridal beauty in the latest issue of the popular wedding magazine.
The Dutch makeup artist has been a major player in YouTube's beauty guru space for years. But she only came out as transgender in early 2020, when transphobes blackmailed her and threatened to out her to her then 12 million-plus subscribers — she now has nearly 14 million.
"Filming this video is scary, but it feel so liberating and freeing," Nikkie said in the video. "I've wanted to share this side of me with you for so long, but I never could figure out the timing. There was always going to be the day where I would tell you. I did not expect that day to be today, but here I am."
Nikkie was one of the 2020 Logo30 honorees, and in her interview she reflected on what it was like coming out as trans:
"I uploaded this tiny video during January titled 'I Am Coming Out,' and it only shook half the world," de Jager joked to Logo. "That is what this year has been for me. In January, I had my coming out, and being welcomed into the community—I feel like I am ready to take on that role and be an inspiration to so many people out there hopefully."
In her new interview with The Knot, Nikkie explains how supportive her fiancé was during her coming out process, literally holding her hand as she shared her coming out video with her millions of fans:
While my coming out was one of the scariest moments of my life, I had a couple of rocks surrounding me. And one of those people was Dylan. He was everything I hoped he would be for me in that period because he was super, super supportive. He was with me throughout every second. When I had to click publish on my coming-out video, it was a very scary moment, because you don't know what the future will bring. He took my hand and looked me in the eyes and said, 'You're going to publish this. We're going to be fine. You got this. Whatever happens happens, but know that we have each other and it'll be just fine.' When he said that I was like, 'This man is never leaving me, and I'm never leaving this man.' I thought, 'That's my person. He is mine until the end of time.'
