Chobani Yogurt, Team USA Sponsor, Tweets Pro-LGBT Ad
Chobani yogurt tweeted this LGBT-friendly ad yesterday with the caption, "Naturally Powering Everyone." Earlier in the week Chobani founder and CEO Hamdi Ulukaya announced "We oppose Russia's anti-LGBT law" in an interview with CNBC
The company joins AT&T and DeVry University in the growing number of Team USA sponsors calling out Russia for its gay-propaganda ban. For Ulukaya, though, it could be sour grapes: Russian authorities blocked the import of 5,000 cups of Chobani Greek yogurt to Sochi for U.S. Olympians to enjoy, owing to Russia's embargo of all U.S. dairy products after the expiration of a 2010 trade agreement.
The cups have sat in a New Jersey warehouse for the past three months.
"For us, this is a very simple, pure deed," Chobani's chief marketing officer, Peter McGuinness, told CNBC. "In the end, we just want our yogurt there for the athletes."
