Hit the Campaign Trail With Pete and Chasten Buttigieg in "Mayor Pete"

Watch the emotional first trailer for the upcoming Amazon Video doc.

Ready to relive the 2020 presidential election cycle? Neither are we, but if we have to, then we would rather do it with Chasten Buttigieg's funny quips to get us through.

Mayor Pete, a new documentary from filmmaker Jesse Moss (Boys State), follows husbands Pete and Chasten Buttigieg as they hit the campaign trail when Pete goes from mayor of South Bend, Indiana, to a candidate for president of the United States. The first trailer for the upcoming doc dropped on Monday (October 18), and the preview is surprisingly emotional.

Pete made history in the 2020 election cycle as America’s first openly gay Democratic presidential candidate. He suspended his campaign on March 1, 2020, but he officially announced his run for president almost a year earlier in April 2019. President Joe Biden later chose Pete as his administration's transportation secretary.

As NewNowNext previously reported, at the top of his announcement speech, Pete thanked Chasten for “giving me the strength to do this and the grounding to be myself as we go.”

Pete and Chasten were two of the honorees for the Logo30 class of 2020. While he was out campaigning, Pete noticed how many people took pride in what he and Chasten were doing.

“It wasn’t about me; it was about the community and the progress we got to make,” he told Logo that June. “It meant so much to stand with our community. I never thought ’husband’ and ’running for president’ would both be things in my life at the same time, but we did it together.”

Mayor Pete hits Amazon Prime Video on November 12. In the meantime, check out the stirring new trailer below.
