Meet the Logo30: Jay Jurden

"Pride is intersectional."

Every day during the month of June, we will be spotlighting our 2020 Logo30. This powerful series profiles ordinary and extraordinary people who show pride in unique and provocative ways. Visit the Logo30 homepage to view current and past honorees.

To Jay Jurden, Pride means "living unapologetically and presenting your most authentic self"—and "being funny," of course.

The New York-based writer, actor, and comedian, who's appeared on Comedy Central Digital, The Tonight Show Starting Jimmy Fallon, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, is best known for his clever stand-up, including sets poking fun at his home state of Mississippi. He also proudly identifies as queer, a fact that sets him apart from many other comics, especially as a queer Black man from the South.

Asked by Logo and NewNowNext how he's celebrated his Pride in the past year, Jurden said, "I came out as a queer man on national television. That's probably number one!"

"And number two, I always make sure to point out that I'm not only queer, I'm also Black," he added. "So making sure people understand that Pride is intersectional."
