Juicy, as she was known to friends, is fondly remembered in her local community.

“She was a light, always trying to make everyone around her happy,” longtime friend Patina Peterson told Mic. “I don’t even remember her getting into anything. I don’t remember seeing her in an altercation out there with anybody in a bad way. I’ve never seen that.”

Peterson recalled late nights chatting, laughing and dancing with Reed, who was well known for her exuberant moves on the dance floor.

Other friends took to social media to express their grief and love for the late 28-year-old.

"I'm so heartbroken," a friend wrote. "We were just laughing and talking the other day! May you rest in peace Chay Reed."

"So sorry this happened to you," wrote another. "May your soul rest in peace."
