Kylie Minogue is going from "Into the Blue" to into the Ru.
This is not a drill: The Impossible Princess herself, along with her equally fabulous sister Dannii Minogue, have been RuVealed as guest judges for the inaugural season of RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under. In addition to the Minogue sisters, Thor: Ragnorak director Taika Waititi was also announced as a special guest judge. We knew a Down Under version of the competition couldn't happen without a Kylie lip-sync or two, but we were worried that an actual appearance from the superstar would be difficult to schedule.
“I’m so excited to finally be a part of RuPaul’s Drag Race for the first series Down Under," Kylie said in a statement. "It’s such an iconic show and I can’t wait to watch the contestants perform their hearts out to win the title of Down Under’s first Drag Superstar!”
Dannii added: “I got to have a cheeky Untucked chat with the girls. They had come straight from the runway challenge so it was exciting and tense all at the same time, not knowing who was going to have to lip-sync for their life!”
This marks Kylie's first in-person appearance on a Drag Race series, but Ru is a longtime fan of the Aussie pop icon. Back in Season 7 of RuPaul's Drag Race, Jasmine Masters and Kennedy Davenport lip-synced for their lives to Kylie's Pharrell-produced track "I Was Going to Cancel" off her 2014 album Kiss Me Once.
And this is far from the first time Kylie has kikied with drag queens. Back in 2018, she told James Corden about the time she lost a Kylie drag queen competition. The following year, she was surrounded by drag queens when she made a surprise appearance at the 2019 Sydney Mardi Gras parade.
The contestants for the inaugural season of Drag Race Down Under were RuVealed to the world at last month’s Sydney Mardi Gras celebration. The 10 fierce Aussie and Kiwi queens competing to be Australia’s first-ever Drag Race Superstar are Anita Wigl’it (NZ), Art Simone (VIC), Coco Jumbo (NSW), Elektra Shock (NZ), Etcetera Etcetera (NSW), JoJo Zaho (NSW), Karen from Finance (VIC), Kita Mean (NZ), Maxi Shield (NSW), and Scarlet Adams (WA).
The latest international version of the Emmy-winning phenomenon will debut May 1 on WOW Presents Plus, airing the same day as the Stan (Australia) and TVNZ On Demand (New Zealand) local airings. The series is hosted by Ru, who will be joined at the judges panel by his best squirrel friend, Michelle Visage, and out comedian Rhys Nicholson.
In the immortal words of Kylie, WOW!
