Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer both think Call Me by Your Name 2 is a peachy idea.

Call Me by Your Name, filmmaker Luca Guadagnino’s adaptation of André Aciman’s novel, was met last year with much acclaim, including an Oscar nomination for Best Picture. James Ivory won an Oscar for his adapted screenplay.

Chalamet was also Oscar-nominated for his performance as Elio, a 17-year-old student who falls for his father’s 24-year-old intern, Oliver (Hammer), during the summer of 1983 in the Italian countryside.

Promoting his latest film, Beautiful Boy, Chalamet tells Time that he and Hammer remain close friends.

“I was just on the phone with Armie thirty minutes ago,” he says. Hammer had just written a tribute to Chalamet for Variety, which the 22-year-old actor says moved him to tears. “I was getting emotional. It was really one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen, especially coming from him.”

Will there be a Call Me by Your Name sequel? “I don’t see any world where it doesn’t happen,” Chalamet says. “I think André is comfortable with a sequel being made. I know Luca really wants it. And I know Armie and I are 1000% in.”

Chalamet suspects the story would pick up when Elio and Oliver are older. “I think it’ll be a couple of years later,” he says. “And I think that’s cool—to take advantage of the Boyhood style of storytelling. That isn’t done all the time.”

Guadagnino has previously discussed the possibility of following up with Elio and Oliver in the future, possibly expanding Aciman's story into a series of films.

“These characters are so fantastic, and I want to know what happens to them,” he told The Guardian. “The last 40 pages of the book tell you about 20 years in the life of Oliver and Elio.”

Guadagnino has also said a sequel would tackle the AIDS crisis. “I think Elio will be a cinephile, and I’d like him to be in a movie theater watching Paul Vecchiali’s Once More,” a 1988 French film that dealt with gay love and AIDS, the director told The Hollywood Reporter. “That could be the first scene [in the sequel]... [HIV] is going to be a very relevant part of the story.”

Deadline reported in July that Michael Stuhlbarg, who played Elio’s father, is also game to do a Call Me by Your Name sequel.

"[Guadagnino] seems to think that we might be able to pick up the action a few years later,” Stuhlbarg said, “to see what’s happened to these characters and the choices they’ve made, and life after this particularly momentous summer for them all. But it sounds like something he’s serious about, and André Aciman is thrilled I think at the idea.”

Chalamet's new film, Beautiful Boy, is a biographical drama about one suburban family’s struggle to survive substance abuse. He stars as an honor student and athlete whose life is derailed by meth addiction.

Beautiful Boy is in theaters October 12.
