Patti LaBelle, Tegan And Sara, Nelly Furtado, Years & Years, Headline Revamped NYC Pride

Roison Murphy, Dimitri from Paris, and Deborah Cox will also perform at the new Pride Island festival.

New York City Pride has been revamped for 2017 as a three-day concert and “cultural experience” taking place June 23 to 25 at Manhattan’s Pier 26.

On Friday, June 23, Patti LaBelle and Deborah Cox will take the stage at Pride Island, with DJ Lina providing tunes. The next day, it’s Tegan & Sara’s turn, along with Years & Years, Roisin Murphy, Gallant, Dimitri from Paris and Occupy the Disco.

Nelly Furtado closes things out on Pride Sunday, the same day as the LGBT Pride March, with additional sets by Chus & Ceballlos, Cindel, and others. LeAnn Rimes will headline PrideFest, the annual street festival. Pride Island won’t replace the annual Dance on the Pier, which always features surprise top-caliber talent. (Past performers have included Cher, Jennifer Lopez and Janet Jackson.)

“While LGBT Pride at its heart is about activism and social change, we also believe that our community needs a space to celebrate who we are and what we’ve achieved, and that’s why we created Pride Island,” said organizer Jose Ramos. “Each day focuses on different musical sounds and styles that people from all walks of life will be excited about.”

Plans are underway for a LGBT demonstration in the nation’s capitol during DC Pride, with sister marches in other cities. It’s unclear how or if New York will participate.
