When it comes to being a dad, Dwyane Wade is still an MVP.

The retired NBA player is once again speaking out about his support of his stylish 12-year-old son, Zion.

Wade responded this week to trolls who criticized a Thanksgiving family photo—shared on Instagram by his wife and Zion's stepmother, actress Gabrielle Union—in which Zion is seen rocking white fake nails and what appears to be a crop top. Thankfully, the photo and Wade's parenting skills were also met with much positivity.

"Shout out D. Wade for setting the example of a Black father loving and accepting their children as they are," wrote one follower. "There’d be a lot less trauma in our community if more Black dads were like this." Wade retweeted the comment with the "100" emoji.

"As a parent my only goal is that my kids feel that i see them, love them and support them," he responded to another comment, which praised him and Union for "embracing their son’s individuality."

"I’ve seen some post-thanksgiving hate on social about my family photo," Wade finally tweeted. "Stupidity is apart of this world we live in—so i get it. But here’s the thing—I’ve been chosen to lead my family not y’all. So we will continue to be us and support each other with pride, love & a smile!"

Wade made headlines earlier this year after Zion rode a float in the Miami Beach Pride parade. Zion, then 11, attended the Pride event with Union and his siblings.

"I don’t really talk about it much because it’s Zion’s story to tell," Wade later told Variety of his son with ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches. "I think as a family, we should support each other. That’s our job. And my job as a father is to facilitate their lives and to support them and be behind them in whatever they want to do."

"I’m very uneasy about accolades that come from supporting my kids or the negativity that comes from it," he continued, responding to backlash he received on social media. I’m doing what every parent has to do. Once you bring kids into this world, you become unselfish. It’s my job to be their role model, to be their voice in my kids’ lives, to let them know you can conquer the world. So, go and be your amazing self and we’re going to sit back and just love you."

Wade and Union are among the celebrities who reportedly made donations in April to cover the funeral expenses of Nigel Shelby, the Alabama teen who died by suicide after enduring anti-gay bullying.
