U.S. Soccer Teams Score Rainbow Jerseys For Gay Pride Month
In honor of LGBT Pride, the U.S. men’s and women’s national soccer teams will wear special jerseys with rainbow-colored numbers.
According to U.S. Soccer's official site, the men's team will debut the colorful kits on June 3 when they play Venezuela. The women's team will wear theirs while challenging Sweden on June 8 and Norway on June 11.
Game-worn rainbow-numbered jerseys will be auctioned off to benefit the You Can Play Project, an organization dedicated to ensuring equality and respect for all athletes, coaches, and fans, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
Fans can also purchase customized limited-edition rainbow-numbered jerseys, as well as a special “One Nation. One Team.” hat with rainbow lettering.
A public service video promoting acceptance and inclusion of all athletes is forthcoming.
U.S. men’s national soccer team captain Michael Bradley wore a rainbow armband last summer in solidarity with the victims of the mass shooting at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub. His armband and jersey were later auctioned off in support of those victims.
