Meet the Logo30: Sen. Tammy Baldwin

"Be visible, be vocal, and vote."

Every day during the month of June, we will be spotlighting our 2020 Logo30. This powerful series profiles ordinary and extraordinary people who show pride in unique and provocative ways. Visit the Logo30 homepage to view current and past honorees.

Sen. Tammy Baldwin is showing her Pride by doing what matters most: making the world a safer, more equitable place for all LGBTQ Americans.

The HRC- and Victory Fund-endorsed Democrat from Wisconsin—who broke ground when she became America's first openly gay U.S. senator in 2012, and the first woman elected to the Senate from her state—has blazed a trail of inclusion wherever she goes. Since winning her bid for re-election in the 2018 midterm elections, Baldwin has advocated for progressive policies like the LGBTQ Equality Act, which would guarantee full civil rights protections for queer and transgender Americans on the federal level.

Speaking to Logo and NewNowNext in advance of November's presidential election, Baldwin had this message for LGBTQ voters: "Continue to use your visibility, continue to use your voice, and continue to vote."

"You know, it is our voices, our visibility, and our vote that creates positive change," the senator continued. "But we also know that in the single swipe of a pen, years of work can be reversed or stalled. Today more than ever, it is important that you keep involved. Be visible, be vocal, and vote."

You heard her, folks. It's time to do your part to make sure that tomorrow's lawmakers don't make life a living hell for queer people.
