Ellen Makes Gallup's Top 10 Most Admired American Women List

The poll found Barack Obama was the most admired man, marking only the second time an incumbent president hasn't come in first.

Ellen DeGeneres is one of America's most admired women, according to a new Gallup poll.

The comedian and host was voted the 8th most admired woman of 2018. She is the only LGBTQ person to be included on the list.

Michelle Obama came in first, unseating Hillary Clinton, who had ranked in the top spot for the past 17 years.

Clinton moved down to the third spot, with Oprah Winfrey landing in the runner up position. First Lady Melania Trump is ranked fourth, followed by Queen Elizabeth, Angela Merkel, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, DeGeneres, Nikki Haley, Malala Yousafzai, and Nancy Pelosi.

Former President Barack Obama was the top choice among men, for the 11th consecutive year, followed by Donald Trump, George W. Bush, Pope Francis, Bill Gates, Bernie Sanders, Bill Clinton, Dalai Lama, Joe Biden, Elon Musk, and Mike Pence.

This is only the 13th time in 72 polls where the incumbent president did not win. Trump now joins Gerald Ford as the only two presidents who did not come in first while still in office.

Gallup's annual survey, which was conducted December 3-12, asks Americans to name the man and woman living anywhere in the world today whom they admire most. It first asked the question in 1946, and has done so every year since, with the exception of 1976.
