It's safe to assume the Spice Girls will never leave the headlines. The women of one of the best-selling pop groups of all time of all time have commanded them for 20 years, and most recently, they're snatching them again in a public feud over the band's Hyde Park performance scheduled for next year.

After learning Geri, Mel B, and Emma were auditioning girls to replace their less enthusiastic bandmates, Mel C revealed why she's "bowing out" of the group for good.

"Didn’t we reach a peak with the Olympics?" she told Love magazine. "For me the absolute pinnacle of my Spice existence was being watched by a billion people around the globe belting out Spice up Your Life on top of a black cab at the 2012 London Olympics. Anything less than the full line-up just didn’t feel like we’d be doing justice to the band or the fans."

Regardless of what happens, we will always have the O.G. Spice Girls and all their solo singles, including "Anymore," a hot new one Mel C dropped shortly after that interview:

"I Turn to You"

Geri might be the most commercially successful solo Spice Girl, but Mel C is arguably the most talented. Her Grammy-winning 2000 masterpiece "I Turn To You" was the only solo Spice Girl track that reached the top of a U.S. chart, and also (I'm pretty sure) the only one still played in gay clubs today.

"Look At Me"

Geri Halliwell stunned the world when she left the Spice Girls at the height of their popularity in 1998, and stunned again the following year with the release of her debut solo single, which remains her most critically acclaimed. Queen.

"Maybe"

If you ever needed proof that Emma Bunton should have gone on to Broadway or the West End, look no further than the funky video and flawless vocals on 2003's "Maybe," which was inspired by Bob Fosse and the Rich Man's Frug from Sweet Charity. The track is so hot, Emma performed it for screaming fans at the group's 2007 reunion world tour.

"For Once In My Life"

Spice Girls fans turned their nose at Scary's return to the music scene in 2013 with the forever-bop "For Once In My Life," a good song with a very very good one-take music video. Stacie Orrico is shook.

"Bag It Up"

Geri's classic sexy talk-singing narrates the bridge of this 2000 gem. Fun fact: "Bag It Up" provided one of the most iconic stage entrances in pop music history— check out the giant legs opening below at the beginning of Geri's Brit Awards performance that year.

"I Want You Back"

The Spice Girls' coffin wasn't even cold before Mel B dropped her debut solo single with the legendary Missy Elliott in 1998, which she released under the name Melanie B. She claimed at the time that she recorded it *with permission from the girls* while the group was still together, but turned it into a single after the breakup. Good story, Mel.
