A movie theater in Alabama has canceled screenings of Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast after it was revealed the character of LeFou will be portrayed as a gay man.

The new owners of the Henagar Drive-In in Henagar, Alabama, posted a notice on Facebook:

It is with great sorrow that I have to tell our customers that we will not be showing Beauty and the Beast at the Henagar Drive-In when it comes out. When companies continually force their views on us we need to take a stand. We all make choices and I am making mine.

For those that do not know Beauty and the Beast is "premiering" their first homosexual character. The producer also says at the end of the movie "there will be a surprise for same-sex couples." If we can not take our 11 year old grand daughter and 8 year old grandson to see a movie we have no business watching it. If I can't sit through a movie with God or Jesus sitting by me then we have no business showing it.

I know there will be some that do not agree with this decision. That's fine. We are first and foremost Christians. We will not compromise on what the Bible teaches. We will continue to show family oriented films so you can feel free to come watch wholesome movies without worrying about sex, nudity, homosexuality and foul language. Thank you for your support!

A look at the drive-in's schedule, however, shows that the theater is showing Passengers, which shows stars Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt having premarital sex.

One commenter on the theater's Facebook page also noted it showed Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, "which featured very graphic depictions of a rhino-creature trying to make love to a human?"

"How am I supposed to have that conversation with my kids?" asked the user. "I can't take my large son Basil to the zoo anymore without him looking at the rhino exhibit and asking "Dad, can I marry a rhino when I grow up?" What do you say to that child?"

Josh Gad, who plays LeFou, praised out director Bill Condon for making the character "more human and... a wonderfully complex character."

A boycott launched on LifePetitions has garnered 54,068 signatures in one day. Participants are encouraged to mail postcards to Disney, "expressing your concern."

Citing the same-sex kiss on Star vs. The Forces of Evil and calls to make Elsa a lesbian in the Frozen sequel, the petition urges supporters to "send a strong message to Disney that children's entertainment is no place to promote a harmful sexual political agenda."
