Judith Light's Shelly on Transparent has been a scene-stealer from her very first scene in the series pilot, which found her complaining about her building's condo board, telling her youngest daughter Allie to take her shoes off, and deciding to cut up cantaloupe – all in the same breath.

While she's become predictably wacky as the series has advanced into its second season – which premiered in its entirety on Amazon Prime last Friday – nothing could have prepared viewers for the magnitude and volume of her orgasm.

Season 2 finds Shelly and Moira (Jeffrey Tambor) navigating the complex dynamics of their relationship. After the death of her second husband, Ed, in Season 1, a lonely Shelly begins to fall back in love or lust or both with an increasingly absent Moira, who herself is beginning to explore her body and her sexuality.

"Nobody makes me laugh like you do," Shelly tells Moira while soaking in a bubble bath, Moira siting tentatively at her side. "You know that thing you used to do with your finger?" she presses, "Nobody could do that like you."

"There are other people," Moira deflects.

From there, Moira begins to demonstrate with her hands before making an attempt for the door.

But "no, no, no" Shelly pleads, reminding Moira that she is, in fact, "a very bad girl."

Cue the foot rubbing before Moira's hand makes it's way up Shelly's leg and so begins the enacting of the much-lauded flicky-flicky thump-thump.

“I had this hand-holding moment with Jeffrey and Judith and our cinematographer,” showrunner Jill Soloway explained to Vulture. “It was just the four of us, stepping outside of the feeling of ‘this could be embarrassing to shoot’ and going to this larger question of ‘we’re showing something that nobody has ever seen before’ – mom’s pleasure, matriarch joy, the matriarch in joy, the matriarch letting go.”

To call Shelly's orgasm loud would be a gross mislead as it is nothing short of thunderous.

"Like, I thought when I heard it someone was farting," Jeffery Tambor joked, "Because it was so low. Everyone was like, “What is going on?” Then suddenly there’s this intense wailing that’s coming from Judith. Take after take after take. And then she would talk normally and start laughing when they would yell cut, then they would yell action, and the wailing would begin again."
