"Maleficent" Star Brenton Thwaites Hints That He's Bisexual

Actor Brenton Thwaites caught our eye this summer as Prince Philip, Sleeping Beauty's true love in Maleficent. But the 25-year-old Australian has just hinted that, in real life, he's attracted to both men and women.

In a interview promoting his new movie, Son of a Gun, Thwaites was asked about his dating preferences:

"What do you look for in a partner?"

"Male or female?"

"Both"

"Well, they're very different... Do they have peanut butter in their cupboard?"

Excuse us while we pick up a 5-lb tub of Peter Pan from CostCo.

As pop culture becomes more comfortable with non-heterosexuality, "straight" male celebrities are increasingly playing to their gay fans the way they've wooed the ladies for years. News of Thwaites' comments comes just days after One Direction's Harry Styles said that being female was "not so important" for him in a romantic partner.

But are these stars simply gay-baiting in hopes of getting us gays in the movie house and concert arena? Or are they finally comfortable answering softball questions honestly, instead of dancing around the subject or playing the "pronoun game."

We can't say which category Thwaites falls into, but in an August interview he revealed he tried getting a job as a bartender at a gay bar in West Hollywood when he first came to L.A.

And in Son of a Gun,Thwaites plays a 19-year-old prison inmate who come under the "protection" of the penatentary top dog Lynche, played by longtime gay fave Ewan McGregor.

"But protection comes at a price," reads the film's synopsis. "Lynche's crew have plans for their young protégé and very soon the debt is called in."

Well, playing Ewan MacGregor's prison wife could make any man rethink his sexuality.
