"Drag Race" Season 12 Queens Serve Political Fish on "The Daily Show"

"Tuck your vote to that ballot box!"

RuPaul's Drag Race Season 12 legends Brita Filter, Jackie Cox, Heidi N. Closet, and the season's winner, Jaida Essence Hall, recently sat down with The Daily Show's Dulcé Sloan to dish on all things democracy—including how they plan to help get out the vote for what is shaping up to be the most important election of our lifetimes.

In The Daily Show clip, Dulcé and the girls kiki about the recent Democratic National Convention and why voting is so important, but it's when Brita mentions that she is the co-chair of Drag Out the Vote, and they are looking for drag ambassadors, that Dulcé's ears perk up.

The queens proceed to give Dulcé a makeover. Her drag persona? Flirteenth Amendment, who serves serious political fish while schooling the children on the importance of voting.

As NewNowNext previously reported, the worlds of politics and drag have collided over the past few years. RuPaul’s Drag Race now concludes every episode with queens carrying signs urging viewers to register to vote, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren even had a booth at last year’s RuPaul’s DragCon NYC.

But those efforts aren’t enough when one out of five LGBTQ people are not registered to vote. After bestselling author and speaker Jackie Huba learned that 100 million sat out during the 2016 election, and inspired by Phi Phi O’Hara’s “Queens United” fundraiser for Hurricane Maria relief, Huba founded Drag Out the Vote, a movement enlisting drag queen ambassadors to help Americans register to vote.

"If you want better schools, you gotta vote, if you want better roads, you gotta vote, if you want to make sure our trans brothers and sisters are taken care of, you gotta vote to make sure these things are happening," Brita tells Dulcé. "Because our rights are being taken away and we gotta make sure we vote so they aren't."
