Israel's Health Ministry has approved the use of PrEP as means to prevent HIV infection.

Both the CDC and the World Health Organization have recommended pre-exposure prophylaxis for men who have sex with men, but many countries are still holding off on giving approval.

The Health Ministry says it will determine the best course of action in getting the drug to at-risk groups.

"This could have an enormous impact on the lives of countless numbers of people in high-risk groups, and will turn out far cheaper than our current strategy of treating people once they become infected—which is wasteful both in terms of NHS resources and its human cost," former health minister Norman Lamb stated.

On Tuesday, Israel's Knesset’s held its first LGBT Rights Day, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his support.

"I know that there were important and lengthy discussions today, and I came here in the middle of my schedule, which was no less busy, to say one sentence to the members of the LGBT community: ‘Every man was created in the image of God.’ That is the idea brought by our nation to mankind thousands of years ago, and it is the principle that must guide our national lives today."

According to the Jerusalem Post, Netanyahu seldom appears in the legislature on Tuesdays, when important votes are rarely held, but he made a point to come for the event.
