New York's venerable leather bar Rawhide might be turning into a Chipotle-style pizza joint, but Anderson Cooper's boo, Benjamin Maisani, is launching a new gay bar in Hell's Kitchen this fall: Atlas Social Club, from Maisani, Josh Wood, Pablo Raimondi, and Asi Mazar, aims to bring a "downtown feel" to the midtown venue, located on Ninth Avenue between 50th and 51st Streets.

"Hell's Kitchen has exploded as a nightlife hub in New York City, but there has not yet been a bar to bring that cool, edgy, downtown culture to the neighborhood," Wood released in a statement. "I'm thrilled to be opening this bar with three of my closest friends. We created A.S.C. as place for us and our friends to go."

Maisani, who also owns downtown hotspots Eastern Bloc and Bedlam, describes the three-room A.S.C. as  "a cross between a gay speakeasy and a retro athletic club."  Think vintage muscle magazines,  Chesterfield furniture, industrial light fixtures and 1940s wrestling posters.
