"Pose" Star Dyllón Burnside to Host PBS' Pride Month Series
PBS has tapped out actor Dyllón Burnside for Prideland, its Pride Month showcase for 2020.
The forthcoming short-form digital series will highlight LGBTQ life and culture in the South with Burnside, a Florida native, as its host. The 31-year-old actor and singer is best known for playing Ricky Evangelista—a gay man living with HIV and a lover to Billy Porter's Pray Tell—in FX's hit series Pose.
The six-episode series will premiere on PBS Voices, a new documentary-focused YouTube channel from PBS Digital Studios.
Prideland kicks off Tuesday, May 26, with a deep-dive into Burnside's upbringing in Pensacola, including why he left the South after getting fired from his church for coming out as gay. The series will also include a one-hour Prideland special, airing Friday, June 12 at 9pm ET on PBS.
In a media statement, Brandon Arolfo, head of PBS Digital Studios, affirmed that LGBTQ culture "has always been a part of the American story."
"With the launch of Prideland on PBS Voices, PBS is excited to travel into the heart of America to see first-hand how the United States is changing from within, and how so many LGBTQ+ people and their allies are working to ensure they can live their lives with pride," Arolfo added.
